The Emperor

The Emperor

Description

In the morning light, this elephant - powerful, huge, yet full of calm and peace - had breakfast in the Moremi Game Reserve. Some shots, focusing on details rather than on the entire body. Ears drawn as maps of Africa; a mosaic of battles, engraved in ivory tusks. The yellow eye shimmers just below the long bristly hairs.

I liked to create the same light in this portrait. The first heat of the morning is tinged with yellow, and the light that hits the big muzzle to the side. The cold of the night is still in the dark blue of the shaded part; , the curved design of the tusk illuminated by the sun.
